Adam Maalouf’s “East River” EPK

Maalouf’s 2019 acoustic album “East River”serves as a crossroad for global cultures. This live video album features violinists Arun Ramamurthy and Layth Sidiq, vocalist Mariam Abuamer, and percussionists Shiva Goshal and Jeremy Smith. For this record, the pantam is the centerpiece of Maalouf’s performance. This instrument, shaped like a flying saucer, was invented in the year 2000 and is both percussive and melodic. The instrument is often called the “Hang” or “handpan”. “East River Sessions” marks the first video documentation of classical musical styles from the Middle East and India played on the modern pantam.
