Adam Maalouf is a Lebanese-American multi-instrumentalist and composer. His cross-genre style of music forms a common thread between the cultures of the East and West. Maalouf’s playing style represents the cross-pollination of diverse influences, including western classical, Jazz, Arabic, and Indian classical music. Adam is currently performing music from his electronic album “Path of Time”, as well as his global acoustic project “East River”.

Adam Maalouf’s 2019 record “Path of Time” is a musical exploration combining traditions of world music with modern electronics. Maalouf builds a foundation for the album with supporting instrumentals of pantam, cello, electric guitar, marimba, piano, world percussion, electronics, and synthesizers. This record features vocals by Hannah Sumner, Apoorva Mudgal, and Mariam Abuamer. The title track “Path of Time” is an adaptation of poetry from Lebanese wordsmith Khalil Gibran. Other tracks include “Land of the Beloved”, a re-imagining of the Arabic traditional “Balad il Mahboub” by the prominent Egyptian composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab, a jam-worthy version of the Punjabi folk song “Chori Chori”, as well as original instrumental pieces by Maalouf.

Maalouf’s 2019 acoustic album “East River”serves as a crossroad for global cultures. This live video album features violinists Arun Ramamurthy and Layth Sidiq, vocalist Mariam Abuamer, and percussionists Shiva Goshal and Jeremy Smith. For this record, the pantam is the centerpiece of Maalouf’s performance. This instrument, shaped like a flying saucer, was invented in the year 2000 and is both percussive and melodic. The instrument is often called the “Hang” or “handpan”. “East River Sessions” marks the first video documentation of classical musical styles from the Middle East and India played on the modern pantam.
